David Binks’ Motorsport Career
Started amateur motorsport in 1998 at the age of 16 years old in the Minicross class of Rallycross, driving the original mini coopers, self-built in the garage at home this was the start of David’s own team DJB Motorsport run by him and his father John right up to the middle of 2011 alongside running a successful Waste Recycling Company.
At the beginning of 2010 David turned Semi Professional with the team switching to a Ford Fiesta Mk6 from the Mitsubishi Evo9 that they had competed with during 08/09 seasons. The switch to the Ford in 2010 put David on the map with a string of podium positions and race wins bringing home 3rd in the MSA British Rallycross Championship.
2011 brought Best Buy to join the self-run team in the UK and another great start for David and the team in Britain. Best Buy were also running Marcus Gronholm in the US and facilitated a test for David in Sweden with OMSE and Marcus , the successful test and lap times convinced Andreas Eriksson that it would be of use to have David join the OMSE team and run the remainder of the 2011 championship with the professional team.
The trusted Mk6 Fiesta was stabled and David took control of one of the teams Mk7 Ford Fiestas, Instantly David was leading the championship in a three way battle for the championship with the support of the team and the car David was never off the podium all the way to the end.
With another 3rd place in Britain the team decided to field David at the Czech round of the ERC where he ran strong until a rear puncture in the third heats and a collision with another car pitched David in the Armco barrier ending the promising outing. A further run in the Car at the MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix had David leading the times and a fantastic final were unfortunately two laps from the flag contact with the Monster Energy Citron of Liam Doran as David passed for the lead ended the day with damage to the car making it impossible to finish the Race.
So 2012 is looking good with the Team retaining David in a full out assault on the GRC. David has now left his full time Employment as an Operations Director at the Family Waste Recycling Company and will focus all his energy as one of the Rookies in the OMSE Ford.
David still has lots to learn, but is excited by the challenge and can’t wait to get started.
